“Pursue your dreams and don’t give up, even when it’s hard”
This month at MOB, we’re excited to introduce Juliana Turnbull: an international award-winning search and growth marketer with over twenty years of experience in sales and marketing.
Let’s get to know her a bit more.
What do you do? The best and worst parts of your job.
I work as a Growth Marketing Senior Manager for Holafly. Prior to that, I was a freelance marketing consultant and worked in SaaS for companies in the finance and martech space.
I also run digital marketing events for those in SEO, PPC and Social Media. I started this in London in 2010 and in Barcelona in 2023.
The best part of my job is meeting others and being part of the digital marketing community. The worst part, when I worked in SEO, was that people didn’t always see the value of it.
What false belief or misconception about your profession would you like people to understand?
Many people think SEO is “free” traffic and doesn’t require investment. In reality, it’s crucial to invest in SEO — especially in ensuring the website performs technically well — to increase traffic and conversions.
What is your daily routine like?
I do my stretches in the morning since we spend long hours sitting. Then I either go to an exercise class or start work. I like having lunch at MOB some days. In the evenings, I usually work out or spend time with my family.
Why Barcelona?
Since 2007, I’ve wanted to live in Barcelona because it offers a great work/life balance. I love its culture, location, and how it combines the beach, the mountains, and strong connections to other European cities.
What advice would you give to your 10-years-ago self?
Pursue your dreams and don’t give up, even when it’s hard. Since I was 9, I dreamed of working remotely and choosing where to live. As adults, we actually have more power to create the life we want — we just need to believe it’s possible.
Tell us about a project you’re particularly proud of and why.
I’m proud of moving to Barcelona, setting up my own business, running my own events, and finding a full-time job here. It wasn’t easy to leave London — a city full of opportunities — but this change has been deeply rewarding.
And what would you say to someone thinking about becoming a freelancer and joining MOB?
Make sure you already have at least three paying clients on retainer and savings to cover about three months of living costs. And most importantly, give yourself more time than you think to attract those great clients.
