“Keep working hard as you are. The results will come.”
Behind every event, there’s a person bringing ideas to life, coordinating the details and making sure everything comes together. In this edition of Makers’ POV, we meet Camila Cañón Masjoan, Event Manager at MOB and Manager at Bar Bailèn, to talk about what she enjoys most about her work, the importance of leading by example, and a project she turned into reality after almost three years. She also shares her connection with Barcelona, her favourite ways to spend her free time and the one word she would use to describe Bar Bailèn.
What do you do, and what do you enjoy most about your work?
I’m an Event Manager at MOB and Manager at Bar Bailèn.
What I enjoy most is seeing how projects progress and grow, seeing clients enjoy the good service and quality we put into everything we create, and, above all, working with a great team.
What misconception about your profession would you like people to understand better?
One misconception is that anyone can work in a restaurant. I also think some people see management as having power and giving orders, whereas I believe a manager should be the first person to lead by example.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I really enjoy hiking, going to the gym and spending time with my friends.
Why Barcelona?
I first visited Barcelona when I was very young, and I fell in love with it. I always knew I would live here.
What’s your favourite destination besides Barcelona, and where would you love to travel?
I think northern Spain is wonderful, and I dream of visiting Japan.
What advice would you give your younger self ten years ago?
Keep working hard as you are. The results will come.
Tell us about a project you’re especially proud of. Why does it mean so much to you?
Many years ago, I wrote down the idea for my dream event. Almost three years later, I made it happen: an experimental, interactive art and music event in a large space.
If you had to describe Bar Bailèn in one word or phrase, what would it be?
Home.
